KUCHING: Police are on the lookout for a contractor who allegedly defrauded his customers of RM469,000.

Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said the 30-year-old suspect would approach those who intended to renovate their homes before pocketing the down payment for his services.

“He would offer his services to renovate homes and request for an upfront payment, either in cash or via online transaction.

“After receiving the payment, he would send construction materials to the customer’s house and carry out minor works. However, once the down payment reaches a certain amount, between RM89,000 and RM280,000 from each customer, the suspect would disappear,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to Mustafa Kamal, the police have received three reports between June 2017 and September this year against the contractor.

Those with information regarding the case are requested to contact Mustafa Kamal on 019-700577 or Inspector Hamizan Ismail (0164455695), or the nearest police station.
