KOTA KINABALU: The newly minted Ministry of Law and Native Affairs will focus on transforming and upgrading the system and structure of the Native Courts (MAN) and administration of the State Native Affairs Department (JHEANS).

Its minister, Datuk Aidi Mokhtar, said, the move is in line with the aspiration of the new Sabah State Government.

Among other things, the ministry will submit any necessary consolidations or amendments concerning the state’s native affairs.

The Pantai Manis assemblyman also commented on the proposed creation of administrative laws, civil procedures, criminal procedures, criminal offences laws, evidence laws and family laws specifically for native affairs in the state.

Separately, he added that the ministry would ensure that the State Islamic Religious Council (Muis) would play a more active role in the development of Syiar Islam.

Aidi further disclosed that the ministry is currently thinking of building six State Islamic Schools (SAN) at six different districts across Sabah in the hope of producing more Muslim intellectuals that can contribute to the development of Sabah in the future.
