KUCHING: State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is Deputy Chief Minister declared another seven areas as Rabies-infected making the total number of such areas at 54 thus far.

The seven new areas are Pekan Baru Balingian, Pekan Baru Mukah, Tanjong Manis, KM2 along Jalan Kanowit-Durin, Kolej Vokasional Betong, Pekan Sebauh, and Kampung Long Miri in Telang Usan.

Uggah said these areas are declared new because they are outside the 10 KM radius of any of the existing ones.

These are latest findings following the intensified surveillance activities statewide, he said.

Earlier on, Uggah was briefed on managing the epidemic at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia Petra Jaya here by members of tue Audit Committee from the Veterinary Services Department headed Dr Marzuki Zakaria as well as officers from the Health Department.

Also present were Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
