MIRI: Two kilogrammes of bird’s nest were allegedly robbed from a bird’s nest processing plant near Bekenu coastal road here yesterday.

According to a source, the incident which involved five armed and masked robbers occurred around 11pm.

“Five masked individuals armed with knives had earlier entered a house located some 200 metres from the main road next to the bird’s nest processing plant.

“A family of four who reside in the house, believed to be the plant workers, were attacked then tied with rope around their bodies,” said the source.

It is learnt that after they have failed to locate the key to the plant, the robbers used an iron rod to break into the facility by poking holes at its dilapidated wall.

“It was estimated that two kilogrammes of bird’s nest were robbed,” the source added.

The family who managed to escape from the rope on their own then lodged a report at Bekenu Police Station earlier this morning.

When contacted, district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed receiving the report.
