MIRI: Without discipline, focus, good character and strong family support, the knowledge that has been imparted to children by teachers and parents during their six years in primary school will be useless when these students enter secondary school.

“Students’ excellence does not start in secondary school, it is just a continuation of learning from the primary school and if in primary schools the students still do not master Linus (Literacy and Numeracy Screening), this is the biggest problem that needs to be addressed by parents and guardians as the students enter secondary school.

“Nonetheless, I hope parents will continue to give full support and cooperation towards their children’s success.

“Parental responsibility does not cease when children are enrolled in school, but they must be ‘together in school’ – in other words, be in the know with any school activity, the school rules and I encourage parents to discuss with the school if there is any problem that the school should look into,” said SK Jalan
Bintang headmaster Ahmad Othman at the school’s excellent students award ceremony here yesterday.

Ahmad also reminded Primary 6 students not to forget their current teachers and to contribute to the school once they succeed in the future.

“Do not pursue success in the world alone, triumph will be achieved not only through books but through noble conducts and also respecting the people around us,” he said, thanking the parents and the parents’ support club (KSIB) which has been very supportive in assisting the school’s activities.

The school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairperson Mohd Farez Samin also urged all parents to be involved in improving SK Jalan Bintang.

“The PTA requires involvement of parents to improve what is needed in the school because parents’ ideas are helpful in the development of the school,” he said, praising the cooperation of all in ensuring SK Jalan Bintang has its own hall.

During the ceremony yesterday, 145 Primary 6 students received their school leaving certificates while Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI) students Arvellisa Awing Lah won the best PPKI student award and Hezron Jau Richard received best PPKI co-curriculum award.
