Over 5,000 expected at state-level Maulidul Rasul do

SARIKEI: Over 5,000 Muslims are expected to participate in various programmes drawn up for the state-level Maulidul Rasul celebration here on Nov 20.

Head of Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) Datuk Misnu Taha told a press conference at the Resident’s Office here yesterday that Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib as well as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang would be among the dignitaries present.

The highlight of the celebration is the 3.3km procession around town, starting from the sports complex here, adding that over 5,000 people from 128 contingents were expected at the event.

There will be other activities held at Al-Mutaqin Mosque here, such as religious talk, poetry recital, Zikir Murhaban competition,and Islamic Affairs forum.

Sarikei Resident Mohd Junaidi Mohidin, Deputy Resident Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman, Sarikei District police chief Supt Awang Arfian Awang Bujang, Sarikei District Officer Christopher Rangau and divisional Islamic religious officer Syed Harold Salleh Wan Mohammad were among those present at the press conference.
