KUCHING: Abdul Rajak @ Yusuf  Manap, 42, suffered serious injuries to his head and body when a 10-tonne lorry tipped over and landed onto him and his motorcycle at the traffic light intersection at Taman Malihah about 11.30am yesterday.

According to Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department head Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the victim was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) after being freed from the wreckage by Fire and Rescue Department personnel.

Initial investigations revealed that the lorry was driven by a 27-year-old man from Kampung Ensebang Plaie who was trying to avoid colliding with a vehicle in front of him after realising his brake was not functioning.

The driver abruptly swerved to the left lane causing the lorry  to tip over on its side and land on top of Abdul Rajak’s motorcycle.

Two other cars were also damaged in the incident. The driver, however, escaped without any injuries.

“The case will be investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he Alexson said.
