Power to seven premises allegedly conducting illegal gambling cut off

KUCHING: The electricity supply to seven premises in Matang, Batu Kawa and Kota Sentosa were cut-off for allegedly conducting illegal gambling.

A technician from Sarawak Energy cuts the electricity supply to one of the premises during the joint operation.

The operations to cut-off the electricity supply was jointly conducted by the Padawan Criminal Investigations Department (CID) together with Sarawak Energy from Nov 13 to 14.

A statement from the police said the case is investigated under Section 21(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, 1953.

In giving a breakdown of the operations, the statement said electricity was disconnected from five premises in Matang on Nov 13 between 4pm to 8pm.

It said a similar operation was carried out on Nov 14, which saw the electricity supply to a premises in Kota Sentosa and another premises in Batu Kawa cut off by the team.

According to the police, the operations ended smoothly and will be continued periodically to eliminate illegal gambling in areas under the jurisdiction of the Padawan police.
