KUCHING: Both traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine have their own strengths that can be applied together for the benefits of the patients, said Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim – a practicing cardiologist himself – said that although TCM might not be supported by scientific facts, it has been proven to be effective for the past 1,000 years

“That’s why it is best that both traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine can be applied together as many hospitals in China have already done so,” he said during the free TCM check-up and treatment campaign at a shopping mall here today.

He also advised the public to always monitor one health closely and do not wait until health complications arise only one consults the doctor.

“Just like our vehicle, it requires constant maintenance and service check so that it can perform at the optimum level.”

He added that people these days do not know the correct ways in taking care of their health even though they are better-off now compared with back then.

On the last note, he expressed his appreciation to the organisers for organising the free traditional Chinese medical check-up and treatment campaign for the benefits of the general public.

The health screening was jointly organised by Sarawak Kim Mui Association Youth Section and Kuching Traditional and Holistic Natural Medicine Association with more than 20 TCM practitioners participating.
