MIRI: A 55-year-old housewife was made RM100,000 poorer after she fell victim to a Macau scam on Friday.

In a statement to the media yesterday, Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigations Department (CCID) head Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said the victim received a call from a man who claimed to be from Miri Court.

The victim was told she owed a company from Perak amounting RM96,800.

“The next day, she received another call from a man who claimed to be a policeman from ITC Perak who introduced himself as Sergeant Yap and informed the victim that she was involved with drug pushers involving RM20,000,” Mustafa said.

The man also threatened the victim that she will have her Maybank account frozen if she did not pay the amount and that the payment should be channel to three different accounts.

“On Nov 16, the victim immediately transferred RM100,000 to the three accounts,” he added.

She only  realised she had been scammed when she queried with ITC Perak, where she learnt that there is no policeman named Sergeant Yap working there.

She immediately lodged a police report on the incident.
