One of the two vessels detained for carrying out STS fuel transfer at 7.4 nautical miles off Tanjung Kuala Baram early yesterday morning.
MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s (MMEA) District 13 yesterday detained two vessels that were suspected of carrying out illegal ship-to-ship (STS) fuel transfer involving 51,000 litres of diesel worth RM91,800.
The two vessels were detected at 7.4 nautical miles off Tanjung Kuala Baram in the wee hours yesterday (Nov 18).
In a statement to the media today, MMEA District 13 chief, Fauzi Othman said the enforcement officers also detained 12 crews – eight locals and four Indonesians.
“Based on the information received from the intelligence unit, our patrol team went to the location and detected the two vessels carrying out STS fuel transfer.
“After checking, they two vessels were found to be carrying out the activity without any licence,” Fauzi said.
The case is being investigated under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for failing to inform the Marine Department director of ship-to-ship activity.
