KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is willing to cooperate with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government for the sake of the rakyat of Sarawak and Malaysia, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

He also said GPS is thankful to the federal government for approving the state coalition as a political entity.

“We are grateful indeed to the federal government for the approval of GPS, and we will continue to serve the people of Sarawak especially to develop and transform the rural areas,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He was commenting on Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement on Monday that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had approved the registration of GPS.

Dr Rundi, who is also Utilities Minister, pointed out that with GPS now officially approved, this would facilitate the state government’s endeavour to see that rural areas in the state are developed at a much faster pace.

“We are all impatient to see the rural folks become socio-economically transformed and enjoy a better standard of living.”

Muhyiddin’s announcement was made during his winding-up speech for Budget 2019 in the Dewan Rakyat in response to Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi’s query on the status of GPS’ application.

The Home minister also informed the august house that the official letter will be issued by ROS “in a day or two.”
