Jogger pronounced dead after sudden collapse

SIBU: A man, known as an avid jogger by his neighbours, was pronounced dead after he collapsed at Lane 6, Brooke Drive here early yesterday.

Nearby residents saw him collapsing on the road at 6.30am and immediately called police.

The police and the paramedics from Sibu Hospital arrived not long after receiving the call. However, the paramedics later pronounced that the 56-year-old man dead on site. It is confirmed that the man was a resident at the nearby Nanyang Road.

According to a neighbour, the middle-aged man used to jog every morning around the neighbourhood.

After his morning exercise, he would go for breakfast at Hua Kiew Road before going home.

A passer-by, who also knew the jogger, rushed to the latter’s house to inform his family members, who later took the body to Sibu Hospital mortuary.

Police have yet to confirm the cause of death.

 

 

 

MPV driver killed after crashing into house

 

KUCHING: The driver of a multi-purpose-vehicle (MPV) was killed as a result of a crash at Lundu-Biawak Road around 8.30pm on Monday.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the driver was identified as Lim Han Lieh, 36, from Kampung Bagak in Lundu.

Initial investigation indicated that the driver could have lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp bend, before it crashed into a house.

“The victim died en route to Lundu Hospital, due to severe injuries,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Alexson added that police had carried out investigation at the scene, and the MPV had been seized for Puspakom inspection. The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Separately, a youth suffered injuries after his car crashed into another vehicle at Jalan Stephen Yong intersection around 9pm on Monday.

It is learnt that the victim, aged 19, had lost control of his vehicle, which skidded off the lane before ramming into the vehicle in front of his. The four occupants inside the car in front of him suffered minor injuries and were later taken to a private hospital for treatment.

The youth, said to be from Rantau Panjang, was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.
