BINTULU: Bintulu Port was announced the winner of the ‘Green Port Award System (GPAS) for Year 2017’ during the APEC Port Services Network (ASPN) Port Connectivity Forum in Singapore on Nov 15, held to mark ASPN’s 10th anniversary.

The award was presented by APSN president Marc-Yves Bertin to Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) chairman Dr John Brian Anthony, who was accompanied by BPA general manager Zulkarnain Ayub, Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd (BPHB) group chief executive officer Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah, as well as BPA and BPHB senior officers.

Developed by APSN, the GPAS Award is a green evaluation system that recognises port operators and administrations for their contributions towards sustainable port development.

A statement from BPHB yesterday said the award affirmed Bintulu Port’s strategies and ongoing efforts in transforming into a green port, as ‘exemplary’.

It added that GPAS aims to improve environmental awareness, promote sustainable development and green strategies, encourage inter-operability of green technologies, and facilitate the sharing of best practices between ports in the Asia-Pacific region.
