KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Police Contingent (IPD KK) has gone full force in tackling illegal gambling activities in and around the state capital.

City police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said since early January this year until today (yesterday), police had made 106 raids with 108 people detained for alleged involvement in illegal gambling activities.

He said from the 106 cases, 29 had been brought and charged in court while the remaining cases would be brought forward pending police investigation.

Among the offences committed were under Section 4A (a), Section 4B, Section 4B(a), Section 9(1), Section 4(1)(c) and Section 6(3) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

Habibi said the suspects were between 16 and 51 years old.

“Police have also seized numerous illegal gambling items such as portable printers, handphones, calculators, computers, laptops, cash, tablets and notebooks all valued at RM152,000 during the raids,” said Habibi in a press conference at the Karamunsing polce station yesterday.

Habibi said that the raids were all carried out under the anti-illegal gambling operation, dubbed ‘Ops Dadu’.

Meanwhile, Habibi said there had been a decline in illegal gambling activities due to the continuous efforts by the police in countering the issue.

“Premises that have been carrying out illegal gambling activities have also declined for the past year following continuous police raids.

“We will continue to monitor these illegal activities and we always welcome cooperation from the public,” he said.
