KUCHING: The Christmas charity bazaar and ‘Run For The Elderly Poor 2018’, conducted by the Catholic Welfare Services Council Sarawak (CWS) yesterday managed to raise more than RM300,000.

The bazaar at the Archdiocesan Curia and Cathedral Pastoral Centre (ACCPC) along Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here housed 32 stalls, while the run gathered 500 participants.

Proceeds from these events would be used to cover the operations and maintenance costs of the Home of Peace, located at Mile 10 near Kota Padawan.

Wholly owned by the CWS, the Home of Peace is an outreach programme by the church to provide home for ageing individuals in an environment of faith and good facilities, with the aim of bringing them peace in their final days.

“We have about 25 elderly poor residents and about 20 staff members (at the Home of Peace),” said the organising chairman of the events Josh John.

Runners charge on right after the flag-off.

It is learnt that the Home of Peace also promotes good values and respect for all individuals from different backgrounds, experiences and religions.

Moreover, it also upholds the highest quality of service delivery in the spirit of a caring community.

Many types of products were sold at the bazaar such as food and drinks, toys, and souvenirs.

There was also a karaoke session at the bazaar to entertain visitors.
