Santa Run raises RM185,403 for charities

SAMALAJU: More than 1, 200 participated in the sixth Press Metal Santa Run at Samalaju Industrial Park recently raising RM185, 403.95 for four local charities.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi, Press Metal executive director Koji Waki and general manager Choa Wei Keong and the various head of governement agencies were among those present.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank YB Majang Renggi, sponsors and runners as well as the organising committee for their undivided support,” said Choa in his welcoming speech, adding that everyone looks forward to the event which allows people to mingle while having fun participating in a healthy activity.

“Other than just work, we need to make sure we have healthy minds and bodies,” he said.

According to Choa, the fund-raiser is part of Press Metal’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) to give back to the local community.

“This year, we raised RM185, 403.95,a very meaningful sum and the highest amount raised through the run,” he said.

Choa also commended government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and individuals who had made this run a success.

Meanwhile, Majang lauded Press Metal for its conscientious commitment in helping local communities through their CSR, community development project and recruitment efforts.

“Through strong collaboration, the functions and roles of companies in the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) would be better understood by the local communities in line
with efforts to uphold local economic development,” he added.

The proceeds from the run were distributed to Children Methodist Home, Pertubuhan Pemulihan dalam Komuniti (PDK) Bintulu, The Children’s ward of Bintulu Hospital and Persatuan Autism Mukah.

Santa Run 2018 was divided into three categories – Run-Kids and Parents (4km), VIP (4km/8km) and Adults (8km).

The top-three runners in the men’s category were Sii Tuong Jing, Alif Zaini and Lucas Wong respectively, while Grace Pui Lu Yee, Jacyntha Thian and Voon Chin Lee were the top three in the women’s category.

Some 1,200 runners warm up before the flag-off.
