KAPIT: The RM4-million Song Waterfront would become a new landmark for Song District upon the project’s completion in two years’ time.

Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan performed the earth-breaking ceremony for the Phase II and III of the development on Friday, which coincided with ‘Song Dabai Fest 2018’ which concludes today.

Phase II is expected to be completed by Oct 31 next year, while Phase III is scheduled for completion by Jan 30, 2020.

Ambrose was accompanied by Kapit Walikota Dato’ Philimon Nuing and his deputy Councillor Lawrence Listin Baling, Kapit District Council secretary Jabang Juntan and assistant secretary Kelimbik Sibat, Song District Office state administrative officer Liang Limak, as well as representatives of project contractors RIZQIY Engineering and Tuchong Naning Sdn Bhd.

Commenting on the project, Blikau suggested to the consultant to have some ‘dabai’ (local olive) trees planted as part of the waterfront landscaping, besides converting the existing children’s playground into a parking space to accommodate the increasing number of vehicles in Song.

On other developments, the assemblyman also proposed the construction of a van station, a ‘Rest and Rejuvenate’ (R&R) centre, an ‘Anjung Kasih’ and a collection-sale facility for local products including handicrafts, in Song District.
