SIBU: The tender to construct a 6-kilometre road connecting Sibu Jaya township to Lanang area here will be out within these three months.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed this when opening M.M. Golden (M) Sdn Bhd’s corporate building in Deshon Road here yesterday.

“The route to be implemented in Sibu will see road connection from Sibu Jaya (township) right up to Lanang (area). Meaning, you have a new road from Sibu Jaya and straight to Lanang.

“Meaning, you open up a new area. The tender will be out within these three months and we have money already for this project. Then (when completed), Sibu will be fully connected to Sarikei from the airport, and right to Kanowit and Song,”he said.

Abang Johari also said that Kapit will be connected to Sibu by roads, and thereon Kapit to Baleh and eventually from Baleh to Belaga.

“We are opening up the area not only for timber but also for agriculture.”

In May this year, Abang Johari had announced the RM60 million project to shorten the travelling distance between Sibu Jaya township and Sibu town.

Meanwhile, at the same function he said the Sarawak government will continue to implement projects that have been discontinued by the PH-led federal government.

He also stressed that it was important for the state to be strong politically.

“We must protect Sarawak. Never surrender,” he said, adding “we must protect our Sarawak culture”.

He said Sarawakians irrespective of their race live in peace and harmony and greet and visit each other during festivities like Christmas.

M.M. Golden (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii in his opening remarks described Abang Johari as a people-centric leader who cared for the less fortunate.
