LAHAD DATU: Umno supporters should not feel bounden or obligated to the party for its past services but should instead choose a party that has shown to really fight for the people.

Former Silam Umno chief Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal said that politics is about the people and support should accordingly be accorded to those who are on the right course.

Yusof said there is no point supporting a party that only aims for power and prioritizes a personal agenda.

“In the realm of politics, leaders should always be sincere and to wholeheartedly carry out their responsibilities without expecting anything in return. I have been in the political arena for 35 years and my only goal was to help the people in any way possible,” Yusof said yesterday.

Touching on his action to leave Umno and join Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), Yusof said he is confident that he was making the right decision to support a party that really fights for the people.

According to him, Umno has deviated from its original track and its struggle has now become unclear.

“We acknowledge that Umno has done some good for the people which certainly cannot be denied. But the people should not feel obligated or bounden over Umno’s efforts as this is their responsibility towards the people after having been chosen as the government,” he said.

Yusof, who is the former Lahad Datu assemblyman, added his action to leave Umno was because of his responsibility to the people. He said his action was not to get any position or benefits, but sincerely for the people as he wanted only the best for them.

“I sincerely believe that Warisan will be able to assist and fight for the rights of the people. That is why I give my support to this party,” he stressed.

On Sunday, Yusof led more than 8,000 members from 114 Umno branches in Silam, some 1,000 members from Barisan Nasional and 5,000 others in a pledge to fight with Parti Warisan Sabah.

Their membership application forms were handed over to Warisan secretary general Loretto Padua Jr. and witnessed by Warisan Wira chief Datuk Azis Jamman.
