KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) youth chief Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa told grassroots members to support the transformation of United People’s Party (UPP) to PSB as a new entity in response to the current political scenario.

“We have to be optimistic. With the birth of PSB, we have more reasons to look forward,” said the Engkilili assemblyman when campaigning for PSB at Rumah Uring, Ensurai Abau in Batang Ai Ili Skrang last weekend.

He informed that PSB was officially launched on Dec 8 this year at the UPP Extraordinary Delegates Conference (EDC) by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who also unveiled the PSB logo depicting a mountain and lights of the rising sun as background.

Supporters of UPP need a more dynamic, progressive and multi racial party; hence the transformation of UPP to PSB, he added.

Rayong hoped that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) would quickly register the new party so that members and leaders could draw strategies to help the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition, of which Abang Johari is the chairman.

He said PSB though friendly only to the four-component GPS is rallying behind Abang Johari to bring Sarawak to greater heights in socio-economic mainstream development.

PSB also shared GPS’ struggle in fighting for and defending Sarawak’s rights and autonomy in various jurisdictions as provided for in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, he said, adding that among the rights worth fighting for is the exclusive ownership of oil and gas resources extracted in Sarawak’s territory.

Rayong also urged members to support PSB president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh to empower PSB and put it at the right pedestal as well as making it a force to be reckoned with.

Earlier on, Rayong declared open a store room of Rumah Uring and unveiled the new roof of the longhouse, thanks to funds under the Rural Transformation Programme 2018.

At the same function, Rayong granted minor rural project funds of RM5,000 to the longhouse’s security and development committee and RM3,000 to its women bureau.

Among those present at the function were community leaders Penghulu Gerang Anchih and chieftains of other longhouses, local councillors and representatives of departments around Batang Ai Ili, Skrang.
