SIBU: More youths should be involved in the Volunteer Patrolling Scheme (Skim Rondaan Sukarela), National Unity and Integration Department Sibu officer Siti Nurfatimah Hussen suggested.

She lamented the small number of youths joining the scheme, and said the youth should participate actively in the effort to combat crime.

She urged neighbourhood committees and village security and development committees (JKKK) to take it as a challenge to get more youths into their patrol teams.

Nurfatimah was speaking recently at a dinner jointly organised by the Kampung Datu Baru Surau Darul Jannah Committee, Kampung Datu Baru JKKK and Kampung Datu Baru Neighbourhood Unit.

She said it is socially good if the young and old can be put under one patrol team.

Meanwhile, she commended the Kampung Datu Baru patrol team for being active, having two sessions of patrol every week.

She said the Volunteer Patrolling Scheme as a voluntary service provides no pecuniary advantage.
