MIRI: The transfer of the Eighth Battalion Border Regiment to Tawau will further strengthen security in Sabah, says the commander of 31st Infantry Brigade, Brig-Gen Datuk Johnny Lim.

He said the move was in line with the restructuring of the army of late, at a parade held at Sungai Rait Camp here yesterday.

“The terrain in Sabah is vast and the landscape is quite complex. But the security situation in Sabah needs to be strengthened.

“When we are directed to move elsewhere, we must be ready to move to safeguard the country’s security better,” he said when met at the lowering of the battalion’s flag yesterday.

The 8th Battalion first settled at Sungai Rait Camp on April 1, 2016 with 11 officers and 21 members of other ranks.

The parade yesterday held in full military regalia comprised 13 officers and 212  of different ranks led by their commanding officer Lt Col Mohd Johaizad Jarudin.
