LAHAD DATU: An illegal immigrant was shot dead when he tried to open fire at police personnel at unnumbered house in Kampung Jawa.

District Police Chief, ACP Nasri Mansor said a team of Police lead by himself raided the house at about 6.00am upon receiving public tip off.

Nasri said during the raid, the police knocked the door and introduced themselves after cordoning off the house.

He said the team forced to break the door as the suspect refused to open the door. Upon breaking the door, the suspect was seen ready with a weapon on his hand.

“The suspect later pointing the homemade gun or locally known as Bakakuk to the team.

“In the life-threatening situation, one of the team members fired several shots towards the suspect in defend,” he said, in a press conference today.

According to Nasri, further inspection later found the suspect died at the scene due to three shot wounds on his body, including two on his chest.

Searched conducted on his house found two 12 Bore bullets, a long machete and foreign identification card.

Nasri said inspection on his homemade gun also found a live bullet inside the gun and knock effect on the back side of the bullet.

“The suspect have been identified as a 47-years-old man, believed to be Suluk who did not have any identification document.

“Further investigation are still ongoing under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of Firearm Act (Increased Penalty) 1971 also Section 8(a) of Firearm Act 1960,” he added.

In the meantime, Nasri also urged member of public to convey information on any individual(s) possessing firearm without license.
