MIRI: Tourism operators should organise more motor touring programmes to help the government fully tap into the potential of culture, adventure and nature (CAN) as tourism products in the state.

In making this suggestion, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said such programmes would provide participants the opportunity to sample the unique ethnic cuisine and enjoy the different cultures of the local people.

“Besides the pristine mother nature, the different ethnic groups have really made Sarawak a unique state.

“That is why we should have more motor touring programmes as this programme would help us to explore our tourism potential in CAN products,” he stated when officiating at the Tourism Sharing Session on China/Mongolia Motor Touring at Pustaka Miri on Saturday.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, called for continuous support from the tourism stakeholders to make 2019 a successful tourism year for Sarawak.

Thus, he urged tourism operators in Miri to enhance cooperation with their counterparts in Brunei, saying tourism packages that link up Brunei with Miri as well as nearby areas will bring mutual benefit for both sides.

“Brunei has a number of direct flights from China as well as other international destinations.

“In view of that, tourism operators should take advantage by promoting attractive packages to lure more tourists coming in through Brunei to visit the city.”

He urged tourism stakeholders to gear up for the campaign to help the state government make tourism a new engine of growth for the state into a success.

Earlier, the founder of Malaysia-China Motor Leisure Touring, Dr Ling Tung King, said the next touring programme would be from Feb 24 until March 28
next year.

On this year’s programme, he said it was organised by Federation of Foochow Association Malaysia while Automobile Leisure Touring Team and Kunming Society-Custom International Travel Co. China were the co-organisers.

Also present were Miri mayor Adam Yii and a tour operator from Mongolia Dr Byambaa Nyamkhuu.
