MIRI: A woman doctor here lost RM5,500 when she was duped by an individual posing as a policeman from Muar, Johor on Monday.

Sarawak Commercial CID Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said the 27-year-old victim was contacted by an individual called Irwan Hapis from Muar police headquarters using the mobile phone number 016-8556592.

“The victim was told she was involved in a hit-and-run case involving a rented car registered under her name but the victim denied the allegation as she had never been to Johor,” he said in a statement today.

Mustafa said the victim was straight away put to an “Inspector Makmur” who claimed a warrant of arrest had been issued for the victim who was suspected to be involved in drugs.

“The victim was ordered to pay RM5,500 to delay the case and on Monday at 12.58 noon, the victim transferred the money online to a CIMB account under the name of Mohd Shah Rizal,” he said and after transferring the money the victim realised she had been scammed and lodged a police report yesterday. – Bernama
