KOTA KINABALU: There are now 19,000 members of Parti Peribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) in Sabah and it is expected to grow to 150,000 members six months from today.

Secretary general of the Pertubuhan Permuakatan dan Perpaduan Masyarakat Peranakan Suluk Bajau Sabah (PPSBS) and the Sulu Sabah Chamber of Commerce, Datuk Mohd Sayadi Bakal also said that they were fully supportive of Datu Dr Mohammad Akhan Datuk Ali Muhammad, the head of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah Negeri Sabah (PERKIDA) proposal that PPBM be allowed to spread its wings to Sabah.

“As a democratic country, we can see no wrong in PPBM spreading its wings to Sabah,” he said, citing that they were attracted to the term “pribumi”.

He also questioned why federal based political parties such as PKR and DAP are allowed to be present in Sabah while PPBM is disallowed.

He added that they have already met with the Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, who is also the head of PPBM and that the response of enrolling them in as members of PPBM has been positive.

“The Chief Minister disallows PPBM from coming to Sabah, but we want it to come in,” he stressed.

He also said that there were already 19,000 Sabahans who have registered as members of PPBM.

“That is not a small number. We managed to get that many in just 18 days and involving 22 divisions,” he said.

He added that Sabah now has a weak opposition and having PPBM would provide the check and balance for the present government.

Meanwhile, it is rumoured that Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) chief, Datuk Lajim Haji Ukin has joined PPBM.
