KOTA KINABALU: A Chinese tourist drown while snorkeling in Mengalum Island, here on Monday.
The victim, identified as Chen Shao Ling, 26, from Guangdong China, was pronounced dead by paramedics at 1.02pm on Jan 7.
City police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the victim was snorkeling with other tourists when she faced difficulty while in the water.
Tour boat operators saw the victim struggling in the water and immediately pulled her out and gave her CPR but to no avail.
The victim was immediately taken to the Marina Court jetty in Sutera Habour where paramedic was waiting.
Habibi said paramedic also tried to revive the victim but she was not responding.
“She was pronounced dead at 1.02pm,” said Habibi.
The body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post mortem and efforts are being made to contact family members.
According to police investigation, the victim was in the state capital on holiday with two others since Jan 5.
Police have classified the case as sudden dead.
