MIRI: PKR is eyeing to contest the Lambir and Bekenu sate seats in the next state election.

PKR national women exco member Zulhaidah Suboh, who is also PKR Sibuti women chief, said PKR is the best party to wrest the seats from GPS candidates as it has strong grassroots support in longhouses and villages in the two constituencies.

“PKR is the best party to contest in the Lambir and Bekenu state constituencies,” Zulhaidah said when speaking to The Borneo Post after handing over school assistance to children from Kampung Beraya and Kampung Subak yesterday.

Present were Ketua Kaum of Kampung Beraya and Ketua Kaum of Kampung Subak and other villagers.

She said PKR had already established its ground work and met the people in the two constituencies not just this year but for the past many years, which showed signs that the party was well accepted by the local people.

Zulhaidah secured 3,104 votes when she contested against incumbent PBB candidate Ripin Lamat in Lambir, who obtained 4,625 votes in the 2011 state election.

She did not disclose who will the candidates for Lambir and Bekenu.

On a related matter, she said the party would continue to organise ‘meet the people’ sessions, welfare activities and membership drive to further strengthen the voice of the grassroots there.

“PKR is confident that the people’s support in Lambir and Bekenu will be stronger as the federal government is now under the Pakatan Harapan, comprising PKR, DAP, Amanah and Bersatu.”

The incumbent for Bekenu is Rosey Yunus from GPS/PBB.
