MIRI: Dato Sri Hafsah Harun has been appointed non-executive special advisor (Sarawak affairs) in the Deputy Prime Minister’s office.

Her appointment takes effect from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2019.

The PKR Sarawak advisor was formerly Minister of Social Development in the 1980s.

Hafsah’s appointment has been welcomed by PKR Sarawak leaders including PKR Central Executive Council member and Julau member of parliament Larry Sng, who said the appointment is timely as Hafsah had sacrificed her time and energy for Sarawak.

“We feel that with this appointment, the voices of Sarawakians are especially heard by the central authorities,” he said.

PKR Central Women’s Leadership Council member Zulhaidah Suboh said the PKR Women’s wing in Sarawak is happy with Hafsah’s appointment, which would bring more aid and development.

She said Hafsah has shown her commitment and dedication towards PKR as the ‘mother of reformasi’ in Sarawak ever since the party spread its wings here.

“The voices of Sarawak, especially women’s interests, will be heard more by the top PKR leadership as Sarawak has its own representative in the Deputy Prime Minister’s office,” Zulhaidah said.
