KUCHING: The launching of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) logo will give local based political parties a common platform to struggle for Sarawakians.

In fact, it would be good for GPS members and supporters across the state, said Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president Dato Henry Jinep.

“This (launching of the logo) will be good for GPS members and supporters…for one reason we have one common logo, one common identity and one common platform of struggle without outside interference and influence unlike in the past,” Henry said.

GPS is launching its logo today, followed by a series of activities and culminating with the grand launching of the coalition at Stadium Perpaduan on Jan 19.

The launching of the logo will include a rally to start from different parts of the state, from as far as Lawas in the north to Telok Melano in the far south, and finally converging in Kuching on Jan 19 for the grand launching at Stadium Perpaduan.

The Tasik Biru assemblyman pointed out that roadshows and townhall sessions are two ways to promote the logo, so as to reach as many people as possible, and as far as the interior parts of the state.

“Roadshow or townhall or the like are one or two ways to promote the logo, be it in paddy field, orchard, longhouses, cottage, hunting ground, plantations or factories, etc,” he stressed.

He further pointed out that dissemination and promotions through social media would reinforce further the popularity of the GPS logo.

Henry asserted that GPS would definitely fight for Sarawak’s rights and continue to speak out for what rightfully belong to Sarawak, and safeguard the interests of the people.

Meanwhile, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said GPS leaders would be going down to the ground to meet the people and promote the party.

According to Abdul Karim, who is Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Sarawakians are eagerly waiting for the launching of GPS and the logo.

“GPS will be launched with a bang…all Sarawakians, whether in the cities, towns, villages and the interior, are eagerly waiting for this day.

“After the launching, GPS and the component parties will be going down to the ground to meet the people and promote themselves, and God willing Sarawakians will accept GPS,” he pointed out.

A veteran PBB member and a political analyst Dato Peter Minos said the people in rural areas need to know the real struggle of GPS.

“We already knew that GPS is fighting very hard for Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) powers to be returned, and for Petronas to give extra funds for development, but our rural folks want to know nevertheless.

“GPS must tell the truth that Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is not fair and just to Sarawak in many things, that PH is unfriendly to Sarawak by cutting funds here and there, making life difficult for the people,” he pointed out.

He believes that GPS will do well by exposing the truth and realities, and by doing early preparations.

GPS, a Sarawak-based political alliance, was formed in June last year by four former Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties- PBB, PDP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) – following the coalition’s defeat in the May 9 general election, and approved in November by the Home Ministry.
