Fire prevention and education needed, says Shafie

Shafie visited Pasir Putih fire victims at the Putatan multipurpose hall.

PUTATAN: Educating people, particularly, villagers regarding fire hazards are needed, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal suggested.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department could help to educate the villagers on the prevention and safety of fire such as avoid illegal electricity connection, provide safety exits and organized housing system.

Shafie told the reporters after his visit on the Pasir putih fire victims who sheltered at the Putatan multipurpose hall here today.

When asked about the government’s assistance to the fore victims, he said the government through its agencies and departments would make sure foods, health and comfort were provided sufficiently.

Shafie visited the fire site.

To give more comfortable living space for the fire victims, he said the government had plans to resolve the matter so that the victims would not have to stay at the hall for long.

Fifty-five houses in about four hectare area of Kampung Pasir Putih here were destroyed by fire which a total of 315 from 74 families were affected in the 12.50pm incident yesterday but no injuries reported.
