KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has never engaged in vote-buying.

“Pakatan Harapan has never given money to anyone (to win votes),” he said when approached by reporters today.

Dr Mahathir’s statement was in response to requests from reporters to address the recent allegations making rounds on social media that PH had engaged in vote-buying in the ongoing Cameron Highlands parliamentary by-election which is set to go to the polls on Jan 26.

The Prime Minister did however, say that the PH government has provided financial aid to the people.

“If the government had to provide the (development allocation) money, it will do so. Everybody gets that,” he said.

The upcoming Cameron Highlands by-election on Jan 26 will see a four-cornered contest involving PH, Barisan Nasional (BN) and two independent candidates.

PH’s candidate is Pahang DAP chairman M Manogaran, while BN’s candidate is former senior police officer Datuk Mohd Ramli Nor.

The two other independent candidates are former Aminuddin Baki Institute lecturer Sallehudin Ab Talib and and local farmer Wong Seng Yee.

Previously, the election court on Nov 30, 2018 proclaimed the victory of Datuk C. Sivarraajh from BN in the 14th General Election (GE14) in May 2018 to be void and invalid when it came to light that corrupt practices had occurred to influence voters in the area.
