Restricted resident jailed 2 years for breaching order

SIBU: A man was sentenced to two years in jail yesterday after he pleaded guilty to violating his restricted residence order.

Irwan Ayub, 37, entered his guilty plea before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti to a charge under Section 15(4) of the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 which provides for a jail sentence of between two and 10 years.

The accused committed the offence at 10.10pm on Sept 29 last year when he was found to have unlawfully left his house at Jalan Alu-Alu here, despite being required to remain indoors from 7pm to 6am each day.

He was arrested in Kuching on Jan 10. His restriction order, effective since May 23 last year, was to have expired on May 22, 2020.
