KUCHING: The Kelab Kesetiaan Sarawak is expecting around 1,000 participants to turn up for its MA63 Solidarity Assembly this weekend at Padang Merdeka here.

According to club chairman Abdul Halim Hamdian, the assembly will be held on Saturday (Jan 19) and will start 3pm.

“A few selected individuals will speak during the assembly which will also have other activities that reflect patriotism for Sarawak on that day,” he said during a press conference at the Square Tower of Kuching Waterfront yesterday.

Among the activities planned are a symbolic signing of the Sarawak Loyalty banner by Abdul Halim with committee members and others on stage.

“After gathering at the starting point, a briefing session will be held following a prayer session involving the two major religions in Sarawak, namely Christianity and Islam. Upon completion of the prayer session, the assembly will continue with the singing of ‘Fairland Sarawak’ followed by ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’ to be accompanied by the raising of the current Sarawak flag.”

Meanwhile, Abdul Halim also advised those who want to participate in the assembly not to park their cars near Padang Merdeka to avoid unnecessary traffic congestion. Those who want to participate in the assembly should park their cars at the Saujana Parking Building and/ or Padang Pasir, Plaza Merdeka, Merdeka Palace and civic centre area.

“The main objective of the MA63 Solidarity Assembly is to raise awareness among Sarawakians on the importance of Sarawak rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) which have been eroded over the years.

“We also intend to convey this message to both the state and federal governments that we want Sarawak’s rights under the agreement (MA63) to be restored and the restoration be respected by all parties in the country,” said Abdul Halim.

“The Kelab Kesetiaan Sarawak through the assembly seeks to give full support to the Chief Minister of Sarawak (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) to defend Sarawak’s constitution under MA63,” he said.

Abdul Halim also pointed out during the press conference that the assembly has nothing to do with supporting any political party.

“This assembly is an effort by Sarawakians who love Sarawak for Sarawakians,” he added.

Also present were three other indivduals who will be involved in the event this weekend, namely Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman, S Sivanesan and Suze Ukong.
