KUCHING: Siburan has been exhibiting fast growth over the years and now, the area is a mature market, says Sunny East Holding Sdn Bhd managing director Phang Nam Fatt.

According to him, Siburan now presents more opportunities to the younger generation, and is also encouraged by the growth in spending-power.

“Year 2018 was a challenging one, and the market was volatile.

“Still, we are proud of having attained great achievements and we are looking forward to a better year ahead,” he said during the company’s annual dinner at a hotel here on Monday, which also doubled as an appreciation dinner for Eastcomm 2 – a project undertaken by Sunny East Holding in Siburan.

Eastcomm 2, which reached completion last October, comprises 34 shoplots – 27 of which have been fully rented out.

CS Mini Mart, Megabite 24-Hour Food Court, Pizza Hut, Mr. DIY and Cheaper Connection Mobile are among the well-known retailers that have taken up the shoplots.

Others are occupied by a variety of tenants such as those running electrical and furniture businesses, a private clinic, a cold storage, boutiques, a tuition centre and also some office units.

“Units are limited now, and the company targets that before Gawai 2019, all shoplot units will be fully rented out,” said Phang.

He also talked about an upcoming project by Sunny East Holding – a government health clinic behind Eastern Mall in Siburan.

For this project, Phang said works would commence this year.

Meanwhile, the annual dinner gathering hosted members of Sunny East Holding management and staff, as well as officials from Housing Development Corporation, consultants, contractors, suppliers and financiers.

The staff members were happy to be receiving bonuses from the company that night, and some were presented with gifts in appreciation of their years of service with the company.

Apart from that, Phang’s family also took the opportunity to celebrate his birthday.
