KAPIT: The people of Kapit have always been staunch supporters of the present leadership of the Sarawak government – even more so now under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

Tuai Rumah Edison Bugap, whose longhouse was chosen as the venue for the Kapit leg of the GPS Flag Rally event, said the large turnout of over a thousand supporters showed folk here trust the state-based coalition.

“Kapit has two members of parliament and six state assemblymen who are all from GPS. We trust our elected leaders to lead us towards a better tomorrow.

“Rural folk especially in Kapit have always supported the state government and shall continue to do so,” he said in his welcoming speech during the event on Monday evening.

The GPS delegation was led by Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap and comprised some 60 members.

Apart from the longhouse chief, others who spoke at the rally were Rentap, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit and Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh.

Those present included Machan assemblyman Allan Siden, PBB Bukit Goram women chief Datin Angelina Celestine Ujang and community leaders.

The highlight of the evening was the distribution of the GPS flag to the four component parties that make up the coalition – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

The GPS logo was launched on Jan 9 by Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg in Kuching, with the statewide GPS Flag Rally kicking off in Lawas two days later.
