KUCHING: Police are investigating the murder of a man after his body was discovered in a vacant house at Jalan Dusun, off Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here yesterday.

Sarawak CID chief SAC Denis Leong said police were notified of the discovery around 10am after a member of the public stumbled upon the decomposing body.

“An investigating team was sent to the location along with a forensics unit and canine unit.

“We have so far not established the victim’s identity nor are we able to link this incident to any other case,” he told reporters at the scene, when asked if the deceased was connected to a viral video showing a man being assaulted by a group of men.

However, Leong revealed that police had earlier arrested four individuals, but did not disclose what they had been arrested for.

“At this moment, I can’t clearly say that he is the victim of another case as we first need to establish his identity,” he added.

He also said that although the exact cause of death had yet to be determined, there were noticeable wounds on the body, and that the victim is believed to have died two or three days earlier.

“A post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow (today) and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” said Leong.

Meanwhile, a white sports utility vehicle (SUV) was spotted in the compound of the house, believed to belong to the deceased.

In the 14-second clip – obtained from security camera footage – a man is seen standing next to a white SUV at a parking lot of what appeared to be a commercial centre, when four men rush towards him and assault him.
