MIRI: The uncut grass along the protocol roads, especially between Miri Airport and the city centre, has prompted Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon to call out appointed contractor DAL-HCM Sdn Bhd for not carrying out its task.

Calling the situation ‘embarrassing’ and ‘unsightly’ to residents and tourists alike, he said based on the contract awarded to the company, this particular stretch of road should have its grass cut twice a month.

“The first half of January has passed but the grass along this road has not been cut at all.

“If this is the case, how will this protocol road ever be maintained?” he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Ting said despite getting in touch with the contractor several times over the matter, no definite solution was forthcoming although the latter did mention that its manpower to carry out the task needed to be strengthened.

He added that non-action or delayed action by the contractor can be construed as breaching the terms of its contract.

“It is the responsibility of the contractor to make sure that it fulfils all terms and conditions for its 10-year contract which was signed by the previous federal administration.”

Miri has 79 kilometres of protocol roads of which the federal government is responsible for allocating funds for basic maintenance and upkeep.

Meanwhile, when contacted DAL-HCM declined to comment on the allegations by Ting.
