MIRI: An Incident Action Plan (IAP) has been established for residents along the Sabah-Sarawak gas pipeline area.

A press release yesterday said Petronas Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) teamed up with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to develop the IAP for residents along the pipeline from Kimanis, Sabah to Bintulu, Sarawak.

“The programme is the result of the cooperation between the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department with Petronas SSGP to establish the first IAP in the world and in Malaysia for villages along the gas pipeline from Kimanis Sabah to Bintulu Sarawak,” Law said in a press statement yesterday.

“We ought to ensure immediate action and assistance of relevant agencies can be taken effectively in an efficient and professional manner. It is also hoped that the local community can be given exposure and training such as ‘tabletop exercise’ or ‘drill’.”

Safety equipment kits comprising a loudhailer, safety vest, torchlight, siren, and four fire extinguishers were presented to Kampung Sahabat Baru, Kampung Long Segaman, Kampung Ka Pulu, and Kampung Lepaki.

Villagers were also briefed on the functions of the devices, their roles and responsibilities.

The IAP is a response guide for incidents such as pipeline eruption and burns, gas discharge, bomb threats, and helicopter crashes during surveillance operations.
