KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Defence will table a White Paper on Defence which will detail the tasks and roles of the Malaysian Armed Forces, said Defence Deputy Minister Senator Liew Chin Tong.

He said the White Paper, which was now in the process of being prepared, hopefully could help everyone to better understand the roles of the military in the country.

“The White Paper on Defence is also important to enable the government to review the allocations provided to further strengthen the defence to face numerous national security threats,” he told reporters after delivering the message to members of the armed forces at the Fifth Infantry Brigade Command Centre at Camp Lokawi here yesterday.

Also present were the Commander of the Eastern Field Command Lt Gen Datuk Zamrose Mohd Zain and Putatan Member of Parliament, Awang Husaini.

Liew said the visit to the camp was part of his two-day visit programme in Sabah.

“The visit to Sabah aimed to understand the varous challenges faced in the state,”he added.

He said security in Sabah was rather challenging especially in the east coast region where numerous kidnapping cases were reported previously.

“Therefore, we want all branches of the armed forces to be united and to cooperate with the various security agencies to ensure more effective security patrols for the prosperity of the peoeple in the country, especially in Sabah,” he added. — Bernama
