TAWAU: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) handed RM2,000 to the widow of the late Sabah Scouts (Rovers Club) assistant commissioner Syaiful Foo, 53, for funeral services expenses, yesterday.

Kalabakan member of parliament Ma’mun Sulaiman handed over the cheque to Syaiful’s widow Sitti Apa Brahim, 52, and her three daughters and a son, at their residence at Amber Park.

Ma’mun said the late Syaiful was a good friend and he had known him for more than 20 years, including his wife, and his sudden demise was very shocking.

He said it was good to let people know the benefits of contributing to Socso as one of the benefits was the aid for funeral services and life pension for the spouse, and the children would be taken care of until they complete diploma level.

He said workers should know their rights to get protection by contributing to Socso. He called on those who are eligible to do so.

Sitti said her husband was a very responsible and caring father who worked with Linde Malaysia Sdn Bhd dealing with liquid petroleum gas for 36 years. She said he started from delivery and climbed the ladder to become a sales manager. He was transferred to Kota Kinabalu in 2014.

Also present was Tawau Socso head Joseph Emmanuel who said apart from the RM2,000, the widow would receive a life pension and the children under 21 years old would also receive aid under the Socso scheme.
