KUCHING: The Ministry of Health yesterday confirmed the death of a woman, 80, from  Kampung Sg Du’uh, Siburan near here due to rabies.

She passed away at 9.35am yesterday.

The woman was among the 17 people infected by the virus since the outbreak started in July 1, 2017.

She was bitten by her own dog last month when she tried to stop it from fighting with her cat.

The dog died the next day after biting its owner. The woman only washed her wound with alcohol and did not seek further treatment from any clinic.

The 17th victim is still in coma and is treated at home.

So far, 59 areas in Sarawak have been declared as rabies infected areas.
