SIBU: Residents in areas under the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) were yesterday reminded to obtain written permission for keeping more than five heads of poultry for festive celebrations.

SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said they may approach SRDC Public Health Section for the authorisation letter.

He warned those keeping livestock at the backyard of their houses without permission of stern penalty, which includes compound fine.

He said this applies to all areas, including Sibu Jaya, Kemunyang, Stapang and Selangau bazaar.

Sempurai said rearing poultry in residential areas is prohibited as it is unhygienic and can affect public health.

The council chairman urged public members to be the council’s eyes and ears, and report to the council should they know of any neighbour committing the offence.
