Mall gas explosion: Investigative papers complete, says Bomba

KUCHING: The investigation papers on the gas explosion incident at CityONE Megamall that occured last month has been completed and the case may be brought to court soon.

Bomba Sarawak director Khiruddin Drahman said there were several elements which will be referred to the Utilities Ministry for further action.

 

“The investigation papers for the case is completed and several elements will be referred to the Utilities Ministry regarding existing regulations, especially for the installation and management of pipeline gas.

“In fact, we recommend that the agency implement where the Approval to Install (ATI) and Approval to Operate (ATO) records need to be maintained and ensure that highly competent personnel are doing the work under the Gas Supply Regulation,” he told a press conference after the Annual Parade Event at the Bomba Headquarters today.

He said Bomba also wrote to the ministry and local councils to revisit the maintenance schedule that must be followed.

“Never compromise on safety. When we compromise to save costs, tragedy is bound to happen.”

When asked who is at fault, he said it was not up to him to say, and that the matter will be decided by the court.

The blast from a suspected gas leak at the mall on Dec 4 killed three and injured 41, of which 10 were in serious condition.
