KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said he would bring up the proposal to incorporate the history of the Kinabalu guerrillas and the 1943 Jesselton uprising in the primary school syllabus to the federal Ministry of Education (MOE).

He said this in response to former chief minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee’s proposal to include the history of the uprising in the primary school syllabus when the latter launched the book, One Crowded Moment of Glory: The Kinabalu Guerrillas and The 1943 Jesselton Uprising, on Monday.

Yong had said that most Malaysians, and some Sabahans, have not heard of the Kinabalu guerrillas because public awareness was low.

He said publicity on the uprising has been limited to only a day’s news reporting following the annual commemoration and hardly any publicity on social media.

To that, Yusof said the school syllabus was under the purview of the MOE.

Nonetheless, he said, he would bring the suggestion up to the MOE meeting on February 15.
