KUCHING: The 2019 Ziarah Cakna programme introduced by the Ministry of Education (MoE)
is not aimed at burdening educators in the country, according to deputy director-general of Education, Professionalism and Teaching Sector, Datuk Sulaiman Wak.

He said the programme was aimed at expanding the concept of caring school and strengthening the relationship between school and parents.

“This new initiative is the aspiration of MoE to reinforce the noble values of the school through a culture of love, respect, excitement, responsibility and humility.

“We at the ministry hope teachers do not consider this programme as another burden on them. It will however burden them if this programme is not implemented as planned,” Sulaiman clarified when launching the national-level 2019 Ziarah Cakna programme at SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg here yesterday.

He added that although all work was previously done manually by the teachers either in preparing for lessons or exam papers, teachers never complained or felt that it was a burden because they were done with sincerity and on the basis of responsibility.

Now, with emerging technologies aimed at easing and simplifying the work of teachers, some teachers, however, complained that they were burdened by their work, he said.

The 2019 Ziarah Cakna programme was held simultaneously nationwide with the main national launch done by Education Minister Dr Maazlee Malik in Kluang, Johor yesterday.

Also present were Sarawak Education director Azhar Ahmad and his deputy Abang Mat Ali Abang Masagus and Parent-Teacher Association of SMK Petra Jaya chairman Bakri Daee.
