KUCHING: The Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) has secured the services of another foreign coach to boost sports development in the state.

The latest addition is Shi Yang from China who has been appointed as head coach for diving, replacing former female China coach Xiao Xia who left Sarawak in March last year.

Shi was formerly coaching the Negeri Sembilan diving team and a coach in his home country.

He graduated from the Chengdu Sport University (Major Sports Education) and possesses the coaching licence recognised by the Yunnan Province Sports Bureau, China.

He officially commenced work yesterday and he will be injecting a new dose of spirit into Sarawak diving team as well as help upgrade the coaching standard.

Shi will also be responsible for preparing the Sarawak diving team for the 20th Sukma that will be held in Johor next year and other national and international competitions.

“I was very happy when Shi Yang accepted our offer because I was confident that with his expertise and experience, the state diving team will be brought to another level,” said MSNS director Dr Ong Kong Swee who met Shi at his office at Sarawak Stadium recently.

“Apart from that, his role as head coach is to plan for the development of the divers and coaches. I hope all existing coaches will learn from him and share his knowledge.”

Ong is also Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer.

Also present were Centre of Development coaches for diving Wesley Inyau Wella and Carlysle Chan Wee Chiek, Sarawak assistant head coach Rosatimah Muhammad and sports development officer Stella James Martin.
