MIRI: Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting has unveiled the one-of-a-kind ‘angpow’ packets that depict the many sides of this oil town.

Themed ‘Miri’s Identity’, each set comprises five differently-designed packets.

“A team took four months – from brain-storming and creative sessions, up to sketching – with the final designs done by renowned local artist Jacky Lee,” disclosed Ting.

This is the assemblyman’s sixth year of helping to design and donating these ‘angpow’ packets to Ang Pow Collectors Charity Fund – these packets are to be sold via bidding among collectors.

It is learnt that Ting has donated 500 sets for the fund-raising activity this year.

“I am moved by collector Bong Kim Foon, who has been tirelessly handling the Ang Pow Collectors Charity Fund and has successfully collected thousands of ringgit from each sale – all set to benefit Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) and those in need.

“Recently Serene Wong, a burn victim, was given financial support for her to undergo skin graft and post-surgery treatment,” he said, thanking collectors around Malaysia who had indirectly helped the less fortunate members of society.

Meanwhile, Bong said in 2017, RM88,888 was raised from this activity – last year, the funds raised was RM44,988.

“It goes to show that collectors are willing to purchase ‘angpow’ packets to help the less-fortunate folk, especially children with cancer,” said Bong.
