KUCHING: Sarawakians studying at institutions of higher learning (IPT) in Peninsular Malaysia, Federal Territory of Labuan and Sabah can claim for the RM300 ‘Graduan Pulang Sarawak 2019’ subsidy within 60 days after their flights home for festivities.

This is a part of the flight subsidy’s terms and conditions posted by pro-Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) youth body Sarawak Volunteers on its Facebook page.

The application form for the subsidy can be obtained via https://bit.ly/2HIULE6.

According to the terms and conditions, each completed form must come with documents such as a copy of the applicant’s identification document – namely MyKad, student’s confirmation letter from the applicant’s IPT, and a copy of the boarding pass of the flight. Another item to be filled up by the applicant includes his or her bank account, which serves to facilitate the payment of the subsidy upon the approval of the application.

The terms and conditions also state that this subsidy is open only to Sarawakians aged 18 and above, and studying full-time at both public and private IPTs registered under the Education Dept only.

The value of the subsidy is RM300 per person for flights from Peninsular Malaysia, Labuan and Sabah, to Sarawak. An applicant can apply for the subsidy only twice a year.

Flights taken between Jan 1 and Dec 31 this year are valid for application.

“This initiative came about after university students requested for it during the townhall session ‘Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2018’, chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in Kuala Lumpur last year.

“It is meant to ease the burden of Sarawakian students, who wish to come home during festivities,” said Sarawak Volunteers on its Facebook page.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman is the advisor to Sarawak Volunteers.

He is also GPS Youth deputy chairman, and deputy Youth chief of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) – one of four component parties under GPS.
